Who we are

The Linscent is founded in Shenzhen, China, by Mengkai Yang, a Chinese woman bringing authentic Five Elements wisdom to women everywhere. We are a small, founder-led business — our data practices reflect our commitment to data minimization and respect for your trust.

1. Free Five Elements Quiz

What we collect

  • Your email address
  • Your date of birth, time of birth, time zone of birth
  • City of birth (optional)

How it works

**Your birth data is calculated in your browser (client-side).** When you submit the quiz form, we do not transmit your raw birth date or time to our servers. We receive only:
  • Your computed element result (Wood / Fire / Earth / Metal / Water)
  • Your email address (for delivery and follow-up emails, if you opt-in to marketing)

What we do not do

  • We do not store your raw birth date or time
  • We do not share your data with third parties for marketing
  • We do not use your birth data to make any decisions about you beyond suggesting which element collection you may resonate with

2. Paid Reading Service

What we collect

If you purchase the optional Reading service, we collect (in addition to standard order info):
  • Date of birth, time of birth, time zone (cannot be browser-only — our human reader needs this to compute your full BaZi chart)
  • Your specific question (free text you submit)
  • The 6-coin hexagram you cast
  • Optional: a short reflection on your current state

How it is used

Your reader (a human astrologer) uses this data to:
  • Compute your full Four Pillars BaZi chart
  • Read your hexagram in light of your question
  • Write a personalized PDF reading
  • Identify your resonant element and recommend matching bracelets

Data retention

**Your raw birth data and question text are automatically deleted within 30 days** after we deliver your reading PDF. We retain only:
  • Your email address (for order history and unsubscribe)
  • Your computed element profile (anonymized, for future product recommendations)
  • The order record itself (per US tax law, kept 7 years)

This deletion is enforced by our internal workflow (no manual review required) and applies to every Reading order.

Confidentiality

  • Your question is read only by your assigned reader and you
  • We do not share, publish, or use your question for marketing
  • We will not contact you about your question's content unless you ask

3. Why this matters

Many spiritual / wellness services treat your sensitive personal data as a marketing asset. We don't. Our position:

  • Your birth data is yours — we hold it only as long as needed to deliver what you paid for
  • We never sell or share it
  • We minimize what we collect at every step (client-side calculation for free quiz, auto-delete for paid Reading)
  • We tell you, in plain language, what happens to your data

4. Your rights

For all your privacy rights — access, correction, deletion, opt-out, GDPR / CCPA / CPRA / COPPA, cookies, data security — see our main Privacy Policy, which is automatically maintained to reflect current law.

Specifically, you can:

  • Request immediate deletion of any data we hold about you (we honor within 30 days, per CCPA/GDPR)
  • Request a copy of your computed element profile (anonymized, no raw birth data)
  • Unsubscribe from any email at any time

5. Founder accountability

Because this is a founder-led business, your data is handled by:

  • Mengkai Yang (founder, Shenzhen) — operational access for order fulfillment, reading delivery
  • Your assigned Reading reader — temporary access (≤30 days) only to data for your specific Reading

No third-party marketers, no resellers, no data brokers — ever.

6. Cultural & ethical commitments

Beyond legal compliance, we commit to:

  • Source-respectful methodology: Our Five Elements and BaZi computations are grounded in classical Chinese sources (易经, 滴天髓, 子平真诠) — not synthesized "spiritual product" templates
  • Reflection, not prediction: We make no claims about predicting your future. Our Reading service is for personal reflection only (see Reading Disclaimer)
  • No medical / financial / legal claims: We are a wellness lifestyle brand, not a substitute for licensed professional advice
